Plug In Theatre has added a new live streaming aspect to our online services. Director, actor, choreographer and theatre connoisseur Weslee Lauder is the host of the new PlugInLIVE - a free online talk show that showcases virtual concerts, live interviews, Q&A's and games with theatre practitioners in South Africa.
Plug In Theatre is an interactive online platform for South African theatre which includes news, reviews, exclusive behind the curtain views and ticket deals. We aim to keep our finger on the pulse of what's happening in the theatre industry and present this in the most fun and interesting way possible. At this time when the theatres are dark and live events are prohibited, we endeavour to create online content that can simulate a live performance while creating a community of audiences in the comfort of your own homes.
With the roaring success of our first PlugInLIVE virtual concert, we are proud to bring you another special episode for Mother's Day. Weslee will be hosting 5 wonderfully talented Musical Theatre Moms on Saturday, the 9th of May on Facebook and Youtube LIVE. The guest line-up includes Carly Graeme (We Will Rock You, Starlight Express, Mamma Mia) Judy Ditchfield (Isidingo, Menopause: The Musical, The Boys in the Photograph), Eloise Clasen(Hairspray, Mamma Mia, Binnelanders), Denise Zimba (Aladdin, Generations, Wedding Bashers), and Mamosebetsi Leotlela (The Colour Purple, Singing in the Rain, Dirty Dancing). Not only will they have a fresh bit of banter, but they will also be singing some amazing show tunes LIVE in aid of THE CLOTHING BANK.
The Clothing Bank is an initiative that is dedicated to "inspire, skill, and support unemployed South African's to eradicate poverty in their families."
"(They) have strategic partnerships in place with most of South Africa’s major retailers who donate all their excess (customer returns, store damages, end of season and bulk rejections) merchandise to their Clothing Bank and Appliance Bank programmes. (They) use this “waste” to inspire previously disadvantaged unemployed mothers and men to start small informal retail trading businesses. (They) carefully select self-motivated individuals and enrol them in (their) 2-year training programme. (These individuals) receive over 1000 hours of training and support and start running a business within 2 weeks of joining the programme. They buy the discounted merchandise and sell it with the objective of earning at least R4000 per month. They use this income to eradicate poverty in their lives. The GROW with Educare project provides women living in poorer communities the opportunity to run an excellent private fee-paying, early learning centre that is also a viable business." Support A Mother, Support A Family Campaign
PlugInLive: Musical Theatre Mom's is proudly in aid of the Clothing Banks Mother's Day campaign. We encourage audiences to donate to this fund in order to play our part in easing the hunger issues that we are facing in South Africa during the COVID-19 crisis. The following is taken from their campaign:
How can you help?
Make a donation in honour of Mother’s Day.
Acknowledge the women who have been mother-figures in your life by making a donation in their honour. Your donation will give a mom from a vulnerable community the gift she needs most: One less thing to worry about! Every cent goes directly towards hunger relief.
Use your influence
Act as an ambassador for hunger relief efforts and encourage your network to make a commitment. Share this email and our social media posts.
Keep hope alive
Hold our country and her people in your thoughts and prayers. In solidarity we will be united.
