Each week SPOTLIGHT ON… shines a light on exceptional South African entertainers who are currently “living the dream” internationally, and flying the SA flag high for us.

This week it will be guitar virtuoso Nick Kendall, chatting to charismatic host Kate Normington live from London.

Nick Kendall puts the “prodigy” in "child prodigy”.

From sharing the stage regularly in Johannesburg with guitar virtuoso Dan Patlansky at just 11 years of age, touring with the SA production of We Will Rock You from 16, on scholarship at the highly acclaimed Berklee College of Music in Boston, USA at 18 and moving to London at just 19 years of age, he has more career accolades than most guitarists twice his age.

His guitar skills continue to be in constant demand for West End and touring UK shows including Quadrophenia, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Rock of Ages, Jersey Boys, We Will Rock You, Dreamgirls, Kinky Boots, Motown The Musical, Tina - The Tina Turner Musical, Waitress and more.

He has shared the stage with many industry greats including Pete Townshend, Alice Cooper, Brian May, Rick Astley, T’Pau and others, along with some of the finest orchestras including the Liverpool Royal Philharmonic, the London BBC Concert Orchestra and is part of Bowie, A Rock Symphonic Spectacular.

He gigs regularly with 10CC, Tony Hadley, Gordy Marshall as well as The Rewind Project and can be found on studio recordings of luminaries such as Dame Vera Lynn, Cliff Richard, Collabro and Peter Cox.

Nick is also lead vocalist, producer and songwriter of his own blues-rock band, The Kendall Connection. Their debut album released in January 2020 to great acclaim.

At just 32 years of age, Nick Kendall is regarded by his peers as one of the UK’s finest guitarists, one that South Africa can still proudly call our own!
