This year, the National Arts Festival went virtual and Jam Every Other Day decided to join the fun on the vFringe video-on-demand streaming platform. This heart-warming show, starring Erika Marais and directed by Celia Musikanth, is still available to stream right now.
Jam Every Other Day is a one-woman show based on the memoir of South African author Emmaleen Kriel. The story follows the lives of Kriel and her brood of children, geese, ponies and dogs from their home in 1960s rural Constantia to their next home in the forests of Knysna. Life certainly had its hardships for the family, but on the whole, it genuinely was just as idyllic as it seemed – if a little unconventional.
Erika Marais brings this feel-good piece of theatre to life on stage under the thoughtful eye of award-winning director Celia Musikanth. Marais’ performance has been widely praised, with audiences being thoroughly captivated by her honest portrayal. It’s a beautiful, real tale of a family making it up as they go!
“Erika is so in tune with the character and so clearly in love with the piece, one cannot imagine anyone else playing this part - she plays it from the heart with honesty and empathy.” – Coleen van Staden
