As we celebrate our 30th Anniversary, we are thrilled to present our new season Pancha Bhuta, at the UJ Arts Center, as part of their Youth Arts Festival, from 29th to 31st August 2019. ‘Pancha’ means five and ‘Bhuta’ means elements. According to Hinduism, these five elements Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Ether is the basis of all cosmic creation.
Tribhangi Dance Theatre’s greatest strength has been their ability to work with different genres and to walk around tradition to present work that is challenging in its experimentation and unique in its presentation. The company under the guidance of Artistic Director Jayesperi Moopen, has created work that remains significant in an ever changing environment. ‘Elements is an uncompromising, precise work which deliciously melds classical Indian dance values with contemporary dance gestures. It’s like a breath of unpretentious air and will leave you deeply enriched,’ said Robyn Sassen in her 2018 review.
Pancha Bhuta, in collaboration with Dakshina/Daniel Singh Dance Company of Washington, USA, draws on the similarities of classical Indian dance whilst combining a contemporary energy to include dance genres that enrich our experiences and perceptions of life. Dakshina/Daniel Singh Dance Company is a leading DC based company with trademark programming featuring Bharatanatyam and modern dance side by side. They will present ‘Vasanth’, the company’s signature hybrid work that is built on group dynamics and use of space while layering in the finely filigreed detail of hand gestures, rhythmic variations and facial mime.
