Please note: Plug In Theatre merely hosting this page for you to find out more about the campaign and for entertainment freelancers to apply for grocery vouchers.
Plug In Theatre is not involved in the decisions made regarding the distribution of funds.
About The Campaign
This campaign was set up by Owen Lonzar who has been a choreographer in South Africa for the past 30 years.
Lonzar states that 'they have given so much of themselves and now need your help to survive. No events or performances are allowed, meaning they are all unemployed and struggling even to feed themselves.'
The fund was established to raise funds to buy grocery vouchers for freelance performers but has now been extended to include backstage and stage management staff. Anyone who is a freelancer from the events industry is allowed to apply. Lonzar is aiming for R350 - R500 per person. The funds are NOT administered by Owen Lonzar. He established a Back-A-Buddy page where the funds donated go to a registered charity called "One Small Act of Kindness" who disseminate the vouchers from a list that Lonzar provides for them.
South Africa doesn't have anything in place to offer financial aid or relief for freelance performers in the entertainment and live events industries. While TV and Film industries are opening up opportunities again, live events are still prohibited and we would like to help those in desperate need at this time.
You are their hope right now so please donate what you can, every little bit helps.
